What Is Deionised Water?
Deionised water (also written as deionized water or DI water) is water from which dissolved mineral ions — calcium, magnesium, sodium, chloride, sulphate and others — have been removed through Electrodeionization (EDI). The result is ultra-pure water with electrical conductivity below 1 µS/cm.
It is not the same as distilled water. Distilled water removes ions through evaporation; deionised water removes them chemically. Both achieve high purity, but deionised water is preferred in applications requiring extremely low conductivity — such as electronics rinsing, reagent preparation, and certain industrial processes.
